Colin Smit Econ (Age 65) |Executive Director and Key Individual

Colin is one of the founding directors of SPS with more than 30 years experience in the investments and securities lending industry. Starting his investments career at The Old Mutual in 1975 he moved through various disciplines within the division ultimately ending up establishing the Securities Lending and Repo operation within the investments division in 1988, which he and his team managed for 6 years. Colin holds a B Econ degree from the University of Stellenbosch. He completed the SAIFM (South African Institute of Financial Markets) Junior and Ordinary Certificates in 1991, the Securities Institute London, “Introduction to International Capital Markets” and “The International Fixed Interest and Bond Markets” modules in 2000. Colin has been an accredited person with the SAIFM since 2001.

JC Bruce D Phil FIFM (Age 55) |Executive Director and Key Individual

JC is one of the founding directors of SPS with more than 20 years experience in the investments and securities lending industry. He has done extensive research into the risks associated with securities lending and the role of structural factors underlying incidences of extreme opportunism in financial markets, which culminated in a Master’s degree (Cum Laude) in 2005 and a Doctorate in 2008 from the University of South Africa. JC has completed the International Capital Markets Qualification from the Securities Institute London. Introduction to International Capital Markets, International Equity Markets , South African Regulatory Module, Futures, Options and other Derivative Products, International Fixed Interest and Bond Markets module and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) UK Regulation & Professional Integrity and Combating Financial Crime modules. JC has been a Fellow of The South African Institute of Financial Markets (SAIFM) since 2008 and is also a Member of the UK Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Warren started his securities lending career with SPS in 2002 and is a seasoned securities lending and transaction analysis practitioner.
He holds a B.Comm – Risk Management from the University of South Africa and is an FSB registered Cat I and II Compliance Officer.

Natalie Herbert (Age 35) |Senior Administrator

Natalie started her career in securities lending in 2000 and has been with SPS since 2002.
Natalie has gained a wealth of experience over the past 17 years and is invaluable member of our team.

Janine Stewart Smit (Age 32) |Compliance and Transaction Analysis Administrator

Janine commenced her career in securities lending with SPS in 2013 and is currently also acting as compliance and technical analyst.

-Regulations and Ethics of South African Financial Markets
-The Equity Markets.

Alta van Heerden | Operations and Compliance Manager

Alta has more than 15 years Management experience in the Financial services, Accounting, Tax and Audit sector of which 10 years at Middel and Partners, a well known Accounting and Audit firm.

She is a FSCA approved key individual who brings a wealth of administrative and compliance skills to SPS. 

She holds a National Certificate in Banking Management and has completed the following FSCA examinations:
